Though easily comparable to fellow pianist-chanteuse Norah Jones, this major-label debut zigs soul where Jones zags jazz. The adult-contemporary swoons are competent enough, but with the exception of second track “Vegas”—“Gonna sell my car and go to Vegas/Somebody told me that’s where dreams would be … Finally see my name up on the Palace marquee”—Bareilles’ “new and memorable” factor comes up zero.
