The production show Hats has almost eliminated an entire demographic—men of all ages—but is counting on the women-of-a-certain-age set to sustain the production for a year at Harrah’s. The musical centers on a woman on the cusp of her 50th birthday, at which point she is eligible to join that matronly, purple-clad force of fellowship, the Red Hat Society. Oddly, patrons are asked beforehand to remove their hats so everyone in the audience can see the stage. There have been no reports of mass upheaval at this request.
