Coming to Town

Drew Danburry

Mother ***

A deliriously ramshackle, D.I.Y. folk-pop EP from the So-Cal native and frequent Vegas visitor. Danburry’s voice rings out like an amalgam of Conor Oberst and Stephen Malkmus, but it’s his earnest lyrics—not to mention his oddball song titles (check “Mother Is a Song by Danzig Not by Me,” which is not a cover of Danzig’s “Mother”)—that make a lasting impact. - Spencer Patterson

With A Crowd of Small Adventures, The Tramlines. January 19, 10 p.m., free. Freakin’ Frog, 597-3237.

Ya Ya Boom

Ya Ya Boom EP **

Two discs in, these Albuquerquians have got the moody alt-indie thing down pat. But competence and excitement don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand; even songs about spaceships (“Girl Swallow Ocean”) leave no lasting imprint once Marissa Demarco’s wide-ranging melodies die out. –Julie Seabaugh

With Decibel Output, Danger Boner. January 19, 10 p.m., $5-$10. Matteo’s Underground Lounge, Boulder City, 293-0098.
