Bereaved bookworms, say goodbye

Julie Seabaugh

The beloved indie bookstore may be closing its doors, but at least Mandalay Place’s Reading Room intends to go out on a high note. This Monday Beth Lisick presents her New York Times bestseller Helping Me Help Myself, a chuckle-stuffed diary of sorts chronicling 12 months and 10 self-help gurus. Whether she ultimately relives the giddiness she experienced on a Richard Simmons “Cruise to Lose,” recounts her time spent in Deepak Chopra and Sylvia Browne audiences or confesses to drinking miniature bottles of Cuervo at a Chuck Palahniuk reading (not exactly an improvement lecture, but hey, it was in Vegas!), Lisick will be joined by local author/commentator/etc. Dayvid Figler, who quips that the evening will also feature “a book signing by Beth and a Starbucks sipping by a jealous Dayvid standing nearby.”

March 10, 7 p.m., free. The Reading Room in Mandalay Place, 632-9374.
