Music

Last time around: Gogol Bordello

The ever-growing, ever-shedding-their-inhibitions crowd pumped their collective fists along to the driving, double-time drums, jigged in homage to the manic eight-piece (plus baby-faced hype man Pedro Erazo) and grinned dumbfoundedly as newbies discovered themselves converted to the ‘think locally, fuck globally’ mind-set. Naturally, ‘Start Wearing Purple’ proved the audience favorite, but Mexican-wrestling masks, fire-bucket percussive breakdowns and a bottle of red wine serving as beverage, hair product and an improvised shower drew adoration in spades. In my mind, the rest of Vegoose weekend is all downhill from here.” (Julie Seabaugh, Las Vegas Weekly’s Vegoose blog, October 27, 2007)

And the time before that …

“The group’s live show puts its recordings to shame, proving that the marriage of music and performance art can work if the participants buy into the message, in this case, the blending of global styles as diverse as punk, folk, hip-hop and klezmer.” (Spencer Patterson, Las Vegas Weekly, February 2, 2006)

With Skindred. March 15, 9 p.m., $22. Canyon Club, 385-4011.
