Hollywood

Batman’s in the booth! Back in the day when DJs were confined to the “penalty box” at Rain nightclub (the second level, where the light booth is), Hollywood was startled by a pounding on the door. Waiting on the other side was a large security dude. Behind him? An almost unrecognizable, scruffy Val Kilmer.

“He was filming Wonderland at the time,” Hollywood says. As a character actor partying à la John C. Holmes, Kilmer jumped on the counter and proceeded to pick through Hollywood’s CD book, handing his choices to the DJ.

Not into playing jukebox, Hollywood put on a long track and took Kilmer to the bar for drinks where a fan in a wheelchair recognized the star. “Val walks over to a VIP section, takes a chair and the lady looks at him like, ‘This hobo just stole my chair!’ … In the middle of the aisle he puts the chair in front of the man in the wheelchair and chatted with this guy for an hour and bought him drinks all night long.” Adds Hollywood, “Val is such a cool guy. It doesn’t matter what he does wrong for the rest of his life; he’s a humanitarian to me.”
