Summer suds: Upgrade your poolside cooler with these five brews

Sure, a cooler full of Coronas and limes by the pool is great, but why not upgrade your daytime drinking this season? A number of craft breweries have released light, refreshing brews to help you do just that:

Easy Jack by Firestone Walker Session IPAs are trending right now, as many breweries have released easy-drinking varieties of the hoppy (and often highly alcoholic) ale style. Easy Jack is a fine example; the 4.5 percent ABV beer boasts a fresh, flowery hop flavor, a light mouthfeel and crisp finish.

Snapshot by New Belgium New Belgium says its summer seasonal wheat beer has “a smile-inducing flash of tart at the finish,” and boy, are they right. Leave the orange slices in the refrigerator—this beer is fine just the way it is.

Summerfest by Sierra Nevada Floral and herbaceous, Summerfest will satisfy the discerning hophead, its hops balanced with European and American malts. The result is light yet full-bodied, crisp and refreshing—perhaps the reason both Southern Wine & Spirits and the brewery ran out.

Pineapple Hard Cider by Ace You’ve tried apple and pear ciders, maybe even raspberry or blackberry. But this summer opt instead for Ace’s pineapple variety, somewhat sweeter than your average cider, a fresh and fruity, bright and bubbly treat.

Stone Saison While Stone’s Go To IPA, another session IPA, has received lots of recent attention, its other easy-drinking seasonal release has often been overlooked. Herbal and citrusy, this beer is rich with flavor from start to finish.
