Bringing sexy back: Not ’cause he’s hot, ’cause Vegas is ready for a sexier, cooler sound.

The local underground community went ballistic when Life Nightclub announced that surging British DJ/producer Hot Since 82 would make his Vegas debut during its Underground Sundays promo. We chatted with the artist born Daley Padley about his new compilation, his rise to notoriety and what song he finds the sexiest.

How’s that Christian rap genre categorization on your Facebook working out? (Laughs) You saw that? I was fooling around and, as you know, some DJs and producers take everything so seriously … I just saw the Christian rap [option] and thought, “Yeah, let’s go with that.”

Considering your marathon sets, how long will you keep it going at Life? I’m not sure if there’s a limit. If it’s vibing, I will literally play until the sun comes up and beyond, to be honest. I’ve been known for playing 13 to 14 hours.

What took you so long to come and play Las Vegas? I’ve been touring the States for the last two years now, and I think that I have a nice place out in North America now; my black book did well.

Vegas is the only major city that I had not visited and I feel like obviously the EDM thing is really big out there, but it’s time for Vegas to hear something a little cooler, a little bit sexier. I think they’re ready for it. There obviously seems to be a demand for me to play out there—just on Twitter alone when the dates got released, you can just tell it’s going to be good from the amount of tweets. I’ve never been there before, so I’m going to try and do a bit of [playing] tourist, get the map out, walk around and just get the vibe.

What did you make of how big your remix of Green Velvet’s “Bigger Than Prince” got? To be honest, the label that owned “Bigger Than Prince” asked me, “Look, we have this new compilation coming out, here’s 10 tracks, choose a remix.” The Green Velvet track was in [those] 10 tracks. Straightaway I knew that was the one I wanted to remix. It’s one of those funny things when you finally finish the record and you’re handing it to the label—I knew it was a good record and I knew the kids were going to love it, but you can never guess how these things are going to turn out. Then, before you know it, a couple months later it’s like the biggest record in the world and it’s crazy! It was the biggest track in Ibiza, still to this day people are screaming [at DJs] to play “Bigger Than Prince.”

I’m really proud of it. [Green Velvet and I are] actually working on a new one together. It’s very early on, but we’re getting somewhere, so I’m looking forward to the follow-up.

In an interview this year, you admitted to being a romantic. What’s the most romantic track you’ve ever heard? You know what it is? I think it’s like a love song, but it’s super-sexy at the same time. ... “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak. That is a sexy record! And the video? C’mon, man!

Are you inviting a bunch of fans over to your house for your “Knee Deep at Home” party? Something I’m very intrigued about is [interacting] with the fan base, because it’s super important. Without these people, I wouldn’t be here now. I wouldn’t be touring so much. I just appreciate all of them a lot, so I wanted to give something back each time we do a release—a competition or giveaway. So I thought, “Let’s do a private party and a live stream worldwide, and let’s do it in my own home, and let’s do a competition where some rookie fans can come to my house and get involved with my friends and my family.” … It’s something that if it goes well, I want to do it a lot more, as well.

If I bring snacks, can I come over? If you bring some Doritos, yes (laughs).

Hot Since 82 November 9, doors at 10:30 p.m., $25+, locals free. Life, 702-761-7617.
