A first taste of LA’s Angel City Brewery

Image
LA-based Angel City Brewery recently began distributing in Las Vegas.

As the brewification of Las Vegas continues, we’re not only experiencing the opening of craft breweries with delicious beers, but also the arrival of out-of-town operations seeking to steal the hearts (and taste buds) of local brew enthusiasts. The regional craft selection just got a bit bigger as LA’s Angel City Brewery began distributing in Las Vegas this month.

Founded in 1997, the brewery was acquired in 2012 by former Magic Hat brewing employees and opened its Downtown LA-based Brewery and Public House in February 2013. Now with its Las Vegas distribution, there's no need to hit the I-15 for five hours to enjoy its suds. Here’s our first taste:

West Coast Wheat With a bready malt with hints of bitter orange at the end, this is pretty full-bodied and hop-forward for a wheat ale. A solid selection.

Pilsner Angel City’s medium-bodied and well-balanced pilsner goes down smooth and finishes with a crisp, somewhat bitter bite.

Social IPA This India Pale Ale is lighter than most with a mild bitterness, but still maintains a light, hoppy flavor with notes of citrus and tropical fruits. Overall, it’s a great easy-drinking beer for the summertime, but true hopheads will likely balk at the insignificant role hops played in brewing this beer.
