The Venue’s bar Virtue Vice is ready to make a splash Downtown

You’ve seen the giant, daunting, off-white building on the corner of 8th and Fremont—the one that sits like a fish out of water among Fremont East’s bars, restaurants and concert halls. The Venue, which opened as a special event space and banquet hall in summer 2015, has had a slow start, but soon, locals will have a reason to go there.

That reason, of course, is a bar. Virtue Vice soft-opened last month, and while the Venue is currently putting on the finishing touches, operations manager Leigh Torres says the bar will be fully open at the end of July.

Right now, Virtue Vice is open Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. until midnight offering beers on tap and cocktails like the popular Moscow mule or watermelon cosmo. Leigh says the bar will routinely feature cover bands and DJs on the rooftop, plus a signature cocktail menu starting July 29. “We really want to be known for [our cocktails],” Torres adds. “Drinks that will set us apart a little bit.”

When asked if customers have been confused about the bar’s status, Torres said some people have been apprehensive, but the main challenge has been letting the public know it’s open. “We’re definitely not at our full potential right now, but as of the 29th we will be. All the pieces will be there.”
