Bourbon is the keeping-it-real spirit. William Faulkner used to have a bottle within reach while writing his Nobel-winning stream-of-consciousness works. It can be a truth serum or an instant party catalyst, and it’s known to rile up red-blooded American hootin’ and hollerin’.
Social, a newish whiskey-centric bar at the Palms with a selection of more than 30 labels of limited-edition bourbons and single malts, tapped Bulleit to star in its signature libation. Bulleit is known for its bourbon, but Southern Wine and Spirits Master Mixologist J.R. Starkus uses its sister-spirit, rye, in the Social Misfit ($20). It’s served in a chilled flask, an inebriation device usually reserved for sneaking sips during situations deemed inappropriate for drinking. Talk about keeping it real. We’ll raise our flasks to that.
