Bitchin’ Thursdays at Beauty Bar Did you know there’s a night Beauty Bar dedicates to DJ’d rawk music—or that it drags out a go-go dancer cage for it? If the bar usually stands in as East Fremont’s Silver Lake equivalent, this monthly party shifts things toward the Sunset Strip, with metal, punk and “gangsta” coming from the booth and one live band (local act Von Kin) featured onstage. August 8, doors at 9 p.m., free.

Ne-Yo at Palms Pool Didn’t get “Closer” to the R&B artist during his recent Boulevard Pool concert at the Cosmo? Give it another shot at the Palms this weekend, as the former local boy supplies his sound at the hotel’s weekly Ditch Fridays bash. August 9, doors at noon, $25+ men, $20+ women.

Willy Joy at Insert Coin(s) More than anyone in EDM Land, the Mad Decent label/collective has popularized the high-energy, tempo-shifting, multi-genre DJ set. Willy Joy isn’t an official Mad Decent artist, but he famously employs its style—as he’ll do Downtown this weekend. August 9, 10 p.m., $10, $5 locals.

Tao Beach Safari Your neighbor sent you to snoozeville with photos from his African adventure, but he wasn’t taking photos of zebras in bikinis. We’re guessing no one will be groaning about viewing the slides from this “safari,” as all ladies in animal-print swimwear score an open bar from 1 to 2 p.m. Leave the binoculars at home, gentlemen. August 10, doors at 10 a.m., $20, locals free.

Sexiest Bikini Contest at Coyote Ugly A recent trip to a casino pool revealed a disturbing new trend: unrevealing, old-school women’s swimwear! How such skin-concealing nostalgia got past pool security was a mystery, but let’s hope the contestants of ribald bar Coyote Ugly’s bikini contest (top prize $1,000) don’t make the same mistake. August 10, contest at 11 p.m., doors at 6 p.m., locals free.

A-Trak at Light There are a lot of heavy hitters on Light’s residency roster, but none boasts the credentials of A-Trak, one of the few Strip-friendly DJs who can rightfully call himself a turntablist. But don’t mistake him for a traditionalist—dude can mix his hip-hop/EDM hybrids into his Phoenix and Yeah Yeah Yeah rerubs and never lose the dancefloor. August 10, doors at 10 p.m., $20 women, $50 men.

12th Planet at Hard Rock Hotel Pool Calling all bass-heads! America’s self-described “first king of dubstep” brings the noise to the off-Strip oasis this weekend. Catch him at the hotel’s Rehab debauch-fest Sunday afternoon. August 11, doors at 10 a.m., $50+ men, $30+ women.

W&W at Marquee Due to an illness the Dutch trance duo was forced to cancel its June tour dates, which unfortunately included a set at EDC. If you were planning on seeing the two at the Speedway, settle for their Monday night set at Marquee. Sure, the main room is no Kinetic Field, but it’ll do ... August 12, doors at 10 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.
