Hot Spots: RL Grime at Surrender, Hyde’s anniversary party and more

Goosedrops: RL Stine superfan RL Grime plays his trap music at Surrender.

Bordeaux Experience at LVH Fans of the varietal vino won’t want to miss this nice-priced inaugural event, featuring more than 50 winemakers literally filling your glass themselves. And if you can’t justify spending $60 on a glorified wine tasting (complemented by food and entertainment options), bear in mind that proceeds from the event and its silent auction go to Lee’s Helping Hand, the charitable arm of your friend and ours, Lee’s Discount Liquors. January 23, 6 p.m., $60.

Candyland at Marquee Leave the lollipops at home—the Duke of Swirl and Mamma Gingersnap aren’t making cameos at the Cosmo club this weekend. Santa Barbara-based electronic duo Candyland blends trap, dubstep and house music, and that combo recently earned them back-to-back wins in an annual Beatport remix contest. Catch their fresh beats live Friday night. January 24, doors at 10 p.m., $40 men, $20 women.

Two-Year Anniversary Party at Hyde Raise a glass Saturday night, as Bellagio’s lakeside nightspot celebrates two years of champagne showers and celebrity sightings. The resident Sayers Sessions Band from Hyde’s LA-based sister venue the Sayers Club plays a special set for the occasion, with resident DJ Konflikt in the booth. January 25, doors at 10 p.m., $30 men, $20 women.

Bassjackers at Light The Dutch duo has remixed for some top industry names (Rihanna, Moby), and their tracks have been played by EDM heavyweights like Tiësto and Fedde Le Grand. The up-and-comers play Mandalay Bay’s EDM emporium Saturday night. January 25, doors at 10 p.m., $40 men, $30 women.

Miss Nevada USA 2014 at Moon You learned all about Nia Sanchez (and the wonders of butt glue) in our Weekly Q&A last week. Congratulate her in person atop the Palms Fantasy Tower Saturday night, when the reigning Miss Nevada USA hosts a celebratory bash at Moon. To boot, former beauty queen Shanna Moakler makes a special appearance. Toast to Sanchez (and world peace) Saturday night. January 25, doors at 10:30 p.m., $25 men, $20 women.

USA Sevens Parade of Champions at Body English Though events in association with this week’s USA Sevens rugby tournament abound, one in particular screams “can’t miss”: The Parade of Champions, taking over the usual Sunday industry throwdown at Body English. The top two winning teams will be in attendance, and if you’ve ever seen a typical rugby team, you know what sort of eye candy to expect that night. January 26, doors open at 10:30 p.m., $40 men, $30 women.

The Hood Internet at Insert Coin(s) Anyone who enjoyed the way Chicago’s The Hood Internet merged hip-hop and indie rock during the May 2012 edition of the Get Back shouldn’t sleep on this special event at Insert Coin(s). Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (STV SLV) will DJ for gamers and mashup enthusiasts alike, following an opening set by the venue’s resident, DJ 88. January 29, 10 p.m., free.

RL Grime at Surrender Even some of the biggest electronic music/DJ culture enthusiasts don’t know that LA EDM producer Clockwork—born Henry Steinway–is also LA hip-hop-meets-rave favorite RL Grime, who plays Surrender this Wednesday. Which is a double-trip because the former is a Light Nightclub resident and the latter has been firmly in the Wynn Nightlife camp for the better part of a year. Just as local nightlife competitors draw battle lines, along comes a complex guy like Steinway to straddle, even erase them. January 29, doors at 10:30 p.m., $42 men, $32 women.
