Welcome to Dillaville at Insert Coin(s) They just seem to breed iconic beatmasters in Detroit, and few have resonated with the hip-hop community more than J Dilla, whose work essentially provided the foundation for the so-called backpacker movement, and who passed away at the age of 32 due to lupus. A tribute tour making the rounds—complete with Dilla memorabilia—includes performers renowned for their association to the producer: Pharcyde principals Slimkid3 and Fatlip, performing as Bizarre Ride Live, and Dilla’s former band, Slum Village.
