Nightlife news & notes: Magic Hat beer finally makes it to Nevada and more

It’s Columbus Day Weekend and, like Memorial and Labor Day weekends, that means big DJs, big crowds and big lines. Wear comfy shoes, bring earplugs and take taxis. CDW also means closing parties at Encore Beach Club and Marquee Dayclub (both on Sunday, October 7). Go get yourself a piece of cheesecake—pool season is nearly at an end.

Or maybe skip the cheesecake and belly up to a Belgian waffle instead. The closure of pool clubs signals the relaunch of party brunches, namely Lavo’s Champagne Brunch (October 13) and Ghostbar Dayclub (October 20). Both rather brilliantly offer food to go with your booze (am I the only one who’s left a party to drunk dine?), and both promise to leave you hungover by happy hour. But only one features bedazzled beer bongs—because nothing preps you for piñata smashing like chugging from a fashionable funnel.

Finally, New England transplants, this one’s for you. Magic Hat, the Vermont-based brewery that’s ubiquitous back East, started distributing in Nevada in September. Lightly fruity pale ale #9 is now available at 17 Valley bars, including Rounders and Burger Bar. If you haven’t tried it, consider sampling one of the Northeast’s most beloved brews. When was the last time you ordered something straight outta Burlington?
