Nightlife News & Notes: Aoki moves to Vegas, a DJ booking at the new Drai’s and more

Palms Casino Resort recently announced the closure of Moon Nightclub, which opened atop the Fantasy Tower on October 5, 2006. Its bookings were, unlike former sister club Rain, decidedly celebrity-based, despite the odd electronic music event. A new nightlife concept is due in the space, but Moon will occasionally open for private and special events until then. Social lounge the View, located one floor below Moon in the former Playboy Club space, began operating under similar circumstances this month, as did Rain in late 2012.

Our “resident” superstar DJs have famously opted to live in LA rather than Las Vegas—until now. Steve Aoki recently told Billboard.com that he has moved from SoCal to Sin City, where he regularly plays at Hakkasan and Wet Republic (next booking: April 13). Welcome, neighbor—we’d get you a nice cake from Freed’s, but we know what you’d do with it.

Speaking of residencies, Drai’s Beach Club and Nightclub has remained tight-lipped about its DJ lineup, but one act has revealed a booking: Dutch electro house brothers Sjoerd and Wouter Janssen—aka Showtek—have listed a May 25 date at the new Cromwell rooftop celebratorium (which opens Memorial Day Weekend) on their website.

April 8 will officially be Nickel Beer Night in the City of Las Vegas, according to Mayor Goodman. She signed a proclamation for the Tuesday Beauty Bar party, which turned 3 on April 8. And Aria’s Gold Lounge is experimenting with another BPM-oriented night—this time, the mostly local DJs of the new Mixtape Mondays promo will showcase dance remixes of commercial classics.
