You may recognize her voice from Over the Hedge, Brother Bear 2 and Ice Age: Continental Drift. You may also recognize her from her several appearances in movies over the last decade such as Monster-in-law, Evan Almighty or License to Wed. No matter where you’ve heard her, you’re bound to remember the pain-inducing laughter that Wanda Sykes has caused. Due to her various talents Sykes is one of Entertainment Weekly’s 25 Funniest People in America.
Sykes was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on March 7, 1964. Although Sykes started her career path in stand-up comedy at a Coors Light Super talent Showcase in Washington, DC, her stand-up success led to many other opportunities including writing for HBO’s “The Chris Rock Show”. While writing for the “The Chris Rock Show” Sykes received a 1999 Emmy award for "Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special." Since then she has also written two books, Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired and Wanda Sykes: I’ma Be Me.
It seems like Sykes has done it all but her list of accomplishments doesn’t end there. She has made several appearances in television shows such as Curb your Enthusiasm, Will and Grace and The New Adventures of Old Christine and continues to keep the world laughing with her quick-witted style.
