Universal is bringing a year-round horror attraction to Vegas’ Area15

Universal knows fear. The 110-year-old studio has monsters swimming in its lifeblood—it made the 1931 films Dracula and Frankenstein, 1932’s The Mummy and 1941’s The Wolf Man, among many other classics—and the annual Halloween Horror Nights at its theme parks are blockbuster hits.

Now, Universal is partnering with Area15 to create a year-round horror-themed experience in Las Vegas—the studio’s first permanent horror attraction outside of its theme parks.

The Universal horror attraction, whose official name and opening date have yet to be announced, will be the anchor tenant of a 20-acre expansion of Area15, located north of the entertainment complex’s A-Lot event space. It will occupy a purpose-built, 111,000 square-foot space. (For the sake of comparison: Meow Wolf's Omega Mart is 52,000 square feet.)

Universal says it will offer live-action shocks and thrills based on the studio’s legacy of horror, which continues even today in collaborations with Jason Blum, James Wan and Jordan Peele.

The attraction will be continuously updated to encompass new films and franchises. The merchandise is promised to be "one-of-a-kind," which could mean that merch-centric events are possible. And seasonal events are planned, which possibly means Halloween Horror Nights may be a big deal here, too.

“Area15 curates a constellation of best-in-class experiences. Universal’s never-been-done-before concept will be a perfect fit because our guests know they can expect fresh, exciting entertainment at AREA15,” Area15 CEO Winston Fisher said in a statement. “We are enormously gratified to have an extraordinary company like Universal as our partner as we embark on the next phase of growth for Area15.”
