Killer sounds come to a church, courthouse, gallery and concert hall - all this week

Laraine Kaizer-Viazovtsev is so dogged in her efforts to connect locals with serious music that the Las Vegas Philharmonic violinist has consistently planted chamber performances, often free, in cultural centers, libraries, churches and local homes. She promotes other ensembles in town when and where she can, including the exceptional chamber programs at UNLV that are too often poorly attended. More recently, she teamed with Brett Wesley Gallery for an ongoing music series. "We're trying to get as much out there as possible, and at a high level," she says outside Brett Wesley one night after driving to Phoenix and back to check out a chamber series there.

With autumn approaching and classical music lovers thinking symphonically — the Las Vegas Philharmonic opens its season September 11 at Ham Hall — Kaizer-Viazovtsev might successfully nudge more listeners out of their homes to see some recitals and chamber music, of which there is no shortage lately.

Of the three events happening just in the upcoming week, one features the violinist herself performing with pianist Richard Weiss. That free program includes Bach's "Partita No. 2 in D Minor" and Mozart's "Biolin Concerto No. 4 in D Major," followed by Pablo de Sarasate's "Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs)." September 13, 7 p.m., Our Lady of Las Vegas, 3050 Alta Drive, 870-2767.

Three nights later, don't miss Paraguayan harpist Mariano Gonzalez Ramirez, performing jazz, Spanish and popular music. September 16, 7:30 p.m., $10, Brett Wesley Gallery, 1112 S. Casino Center Blvd., 433-4433.

And, to cap it all off, hear Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence," presented for free by sextet members Rebecca Ramsey, Geri Thompson, Jenny Massey Tiana Harjo, Moonlight Tran and Lindsey Springer. September 16, noon, Lloyd George Federal Courthouse Jury Room, 333 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 229-3515.
