1995 Miss USA Shanna Moakler has ambitious plans for the next Miss Nevada USA Pageant and plans to double the number of glamour girls parading in their sexy swimsuits. Over the weekend, she began the recruiting drive at Moon in the Palms with 2011 Miss USA Alyssa Campanella of California and 2011 Miss Nevada USA Sarah Chapman of Henderson.
Shanna, formerly married to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker (they have two children), has joined the Miss Nevada USA Organization, led by Maureen Atwell, as a director. She told me: “With 20 years in the beauty industry, I think we can really add to the Nevada excitement.
“I want to turn our Jan. 29 contest into a big event. I don’t want to just find a titleholder, but a real goodwill ambassador girl who can serve as a role model to attract even more next time. Last year, we had 27 contestants, and I plan on at least 50.”
A second day of recruiting was held at hair guru Michael Boychuck’s Amp Salon in the Palms, but because he will be a judge in January, he had to leave his own venue. 2011 Miss Nevada Teen USA Ashley Brown attended, along with 2009 Miss Nevada USA Georgina Vaughan, who has become a pageant photographer and Winning Wand teen coach.
Peepshow at Planet Hollywood star Cheaza helped the princess hopefuls with their Syrup swimwear choices. She shoots her debut 2012 calendar in Syrup swimsuits next Tuesday. Gregory shoes at the Venetian also is a sponsor of her new calendar.
I asked Shanna why it seems in all national pageants our Nevada girls never get into the Top 10. “I’m going to give them so much preparation, they will be completely ready when they face the judges in terms of media training, etiquette, makeup and a full nutritional course and gym programs,” she said.
“We have beautiful girls in Nevada, but now we have to round them out with full preparation. I’m involved with this because I know we will find a perfect Miss Nevada who will go on to win Miss USA.”
