In Las Vegas, locals are used to getting hooked up. You flash a Nevada ID and smiles appear, postures relax, velvet ropes seem to vaporize in an instant. Well, sometimes. But rarely do those perks follow us beyond the state line.

On July 30 and 31, however, Big Bear Lake in California’s San Bernadino Mountains is giving Las Vegas residents an extra reason to gas up the car and go. The Shell station in Big Bear Lake will be offering discounted gas prices to Las Vegas area residents: $2.49 for regular; $2.59 for plus; $2.69 for premium. Want more? And if cheap (or free!) gas isn’t enough to get you to drive to California, consider this: Daytime averages for Big Bear Lake hover around 77 degrees in summer; it takes about three and a half hours to get there; and once you arrive there’s plenty to do: Take the chairlift up and mountain bike down the slopes; go jet skiing on the lake, hop on a horse for a sunset ride; zip line through local woods. Next Monday and Tuesday just got a lot more fun.
