VH1's "Model Employee"

With last night’s surprise double elimination of two supermodels on the VH1 reality show "Model Employee," we are now just one week away from knowing who will win the $100,000 year-long Face of Mandalay Bay contract.

Model Employee

I’d predicted the twist in yesterday’s Strip Scribbles column and both Shah Granville and Johanna Da Ru were sent packing in tears. We’re left with Alex Farmer, Sonja Ewy, Jassmine Amos and Sharrone Holt. The drama will be dragged out in next week’s finale as two more get fired and two are left standing until the dramatic final verdict.

The winner -- kept under wraps and tight security for the next seven days -- gets a 12-month modeling contract and will be a regular on M-Life TV, featured in the pages of M-Life magazine and make numerous personal appearances at the resort.

We’ll have the first interview with the new "Face of Mandalay Bay" right after the judges’ decision.

RECORDS SMASHED: At the halfway point of the 44th annual World Series of Poker in the Rio, there have been 40,039 entrants, up 27 percent from last year and beating the record-breaking 2011. That total exceeds the combined entrants for the first 26 years of WSOP history. The giant poker festival has broken more than a dozen records so far: There’s been a 10 percent increase in money, too, with $54,109,710 awarded to date, compared with $49,095,775 at this point a year ago. That total exceeds the combined prize money handed out in the first 21 years of WSOP. The average WSOP gold bracelet winner has walked away with a first place prize of $364,308 — more than 7 times the U.S. median household income ($50,054).

Largest first place prize thus far is $1,199,104, won by Benny Chen. Event No. 26 winner Ken Lind has the highest return on investment for any player so far in the Seniors Event, where his $1,000 entry fee returned him $634,809 for his win -- a staggering 634 times his investment, in just three days of play

HOUSE MOVES: It should be the easiest of moves when guitar guru Carlos Santana sells his Summerlin home for $3.75 million and moves in right next door to a larger, more luxurious abode. He shelled out $6 million for the new place, which has a $400,000 state-of-the-art movie theater and 3-D projector, according to realty websites. The home is described as a “technological and architectural masterpiece,” complete with $2 million in sound and video equipment. There’s a game room, gym, putting green and a pool with a 65-inch flat-screen TV that rises from beneath the slate deck. As if that’s not enough luxury, the walls telescope so indoor-outdoor sizes can be changed at the touch of a switch!

  • The Las Vegas debut of the Ohio-bred indie band was filled with dynamic arrangements, entertaining anecdotes—and, surprisingly, lots of attendees.
