A first glimpse of Cirque du Soleil’s Mexican dinner theater

Image
Cirque du Soleil’s Joya is set to debut in Riviera Maya, Mexico in November 2014.

From the Canadian entertainment company that brought us stages that disappear into swimming pools, choreographed roller blading to the Beatles and Criss Angel live, comes something a little different: a dinner show on the Mexican coast.

Today, Cirque du Soleil revealed a first glimpse of Joyà, an “intimate” theatrical experience under construction in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Set to a Latin drumbeat, the 90-second YouTube video doesn’t give much away, but it does show sketches and renderings of what appears to be a theater in the round with seats and dinner tables, as well as an under-the-sea scene, live musicians, the usual Cirque acrobatics and a vague butterfly theme.

“Life has a secret to share,” the Joyà video proclaims. Cirque’s secret won’t be fully revealed until November, when Joyà is scheduled to debut.
