Deryk Engelland jokes about being the “old man” on the Vegas Golden Knights roster but the 36-year-old NHL vet and longtime Las Vegan has plenty left in the tank—and after the team’s incredible inaugural season, there’s plenty of motivation for Engelland and his teammates.
“Every guy you talk to will tell you that you just want to play as long as you can,” he says in this episode of the All The Vegas podcast. “Myself, I still love going to the rink, still love being around the guys and still love that feeling of competition, even if it’s just in practice. We had a short summer but even after one month of enjoying the summer, we were ready to get back at it. Last year was the most fun I’ve ever had in my hockey career and we want to get back to that.”
All The Vegas hosts Brock Radke and Mark Shunock talk with Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Deryk Engelland.
We also talk with Deryk about starting the Engelland’s Vegas Born Heroes Foundation; how he swiped from dirt from the T-Mobile Arena site for the lot where he built his home; how the Knights turned Las Vegans into hockey fans; and what it was like to go from a low-profile defenseman to a team leader who shoots TV commercials and makes tons of appearances around the community.
