Buffalo Bill’s giant, yellow Desperado roller coaster has closed “until further notice,” according to the Primm resort’s website, and an employee who answered the phone said there was only a “slight chance” it would ever reopen. (A request for an official comment from a spokesperson went unanswered.)

Manufactured by Arrow Dynamics, the steel hypercoaster opened in 1994, climbing 200 feet into the air and reaching a speedy 85 mph at zero gravity, while winding in and out of the casino. Roller coaster enthusiasts have been commenting on the closure on popular Facebook roller coaster forum Diary of a RollerCoaster Girl. “Another bucket list coaster gone,” Clive Bushell wrote. Added Matthew Shelman: “Had the pleasure of riding over 200 times. Sad to see it possibly go.”

Canonized in 1996 by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s tallest roller coaster at the time, Desperado has occasionally closed and reopened to the public. The current closure also includes the Adventure Canyon Log Flume, according to primmvalleyresorts.com.
