Gov. Steve Sisolak announced this week that some COVID restrictions will be loosened starting on Monday, February 15, and shuttered Las Vegas production shows are working out plans to reopen with slightly increased audience capacities while still meeting other health and safety mandates.

An MGM Resorts spokesperson confirmed that two shows that closed with November’s statewide pause will return to the Luxor Theater next week. Carrot Top’s comedy show and the Fantasy female revue are set to resume performances in front of a maximum audience of 100 on Friday, February 19. Both shows initially reopened in the larger Luxor venue—moving from their shared home at the Atrium Showroom—on November 6 before shutting down again around Thanksgiving when restrictions tightened up to allow just 50 people per show. Carrot Top will go on at 8 p.m. nightly (dark Sundays) with Fantasy performing at 10:30 p.m. nightly.

Elsewhere at MGM Resorts, both Thunder From Down Under at Excalibur and Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club at MGM Grand will begin to accommodate audiences of up to 100 next week. Male revue Thunder will continue its schedule of two shows Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and three shows on Friday and Saturday, at the Thunderland Showroom at Excalibur, and it’s expected to host a capacity crowd of 100 on February 15.

The comedy club performances, which resumed before the holidays in a larger MGM Grand ballroom space before recently returning to its actual club venue in the resort’s Underground promenade, will move back upstairs to the ballrooms starting on Thursday, February 18, to allow for that max number of 100 guests.

Other Las Vegas Strip shows that had reopened in the fall only to close again with the initiation of the pause include Absinthe at Caesars Palace, MJ Live at the Strat, David Copperfield and Jabbawockeez at MGM Grand and The Australian Bee Gees Show at Excalibur. Shows like these could be planning to reopen soon under the new 35% capacity or 100 people adjustment, but events in smaller venues might still be hindered by the continuing requirement of a 25-foot distance between stage and audience. Or they could be planning to wait until March 15 when, if conditions allow, the restrictions could return to pre-pause levels of 50% capacity or 250 people, whichever is fewer.

Strip productions that have continued performances despite the current 50-person audience limit include X Country at Harrah’s, X Burlesque at Flamingo, the L.A. Comedy Club at the Strat, Piff the Magic Dragon at Flamingo, the Laugh Factory’s standup shows and Murray the Magician show at the Tropicana, Tape Face at Harrah’s and Extravaganza at Bally’s.
