Hammer & Cycle’s art auction raises funds for bikes for children in need

Hammer & Cycle’s art auction raises funds for bicycles for local children in need.

Whether working with cast-iron, chromogenic film, laser-etched wood or acrylic, Pensacola-born artist Sam Davis has masterfully created a world of lost astronauts, ray-guns, desert terrains and flying saucers—all packaged in a realm of future-past vintage nostalgia where the landscape is as a mysterious as the narrative.

In a recent piece donated to Hammer & Cycle's annual Bikes for Brats charity art auction held November 7, he places his much-adored Astrobot character on a streamlined sky-blue vintage bicycle—a two-dimensional piece of art on wood that will likely result in frenetic bidding.

But not to worry. The Hammer & Cycle bicycle club has gathered more than 40 artworks for the event that traditonally has collectors walking away with steals. Among the roster of participating artists this year are Jen Kleven, RC Wonderly, Shawn Hummel, Mikayla Whitmore, Krystal Ramirez, Chris Bauder and Bundy O'Shanahan. All proceeds go toward bicycles for children in need, and last year the auction brought in enough for 300 bikes. Tonight will be another not-to-miss event at a Downtown artist studio, with the bikes going to Help of Southern Nevada.

Fourth-Annual Bikes For Brats Charity Art Auction November 7, 6-9 p.m., 418 W. Mesquite Street, Suite 130, Bikes for Brats on Facebook.
