Wicked Whispers & Racy Rumors

The Hugh Hefner-Crystal Harris breakup has been well documented in my tweets (@robin_leach), and his former girlfriend turned Peepshow headliner and Holly’s World star Holly Madison has broken her silence with a cryptic tweet: “Dodged the Bullet.” Said the Playboy mogul, who has celebrated his birthday at the Palms the past few years: “The breakup is a heartbreaker, but better now than after the marriage.”

Several other Playmates emailed me yesterday with the same and similar observations, with one adding, “We’re sad for him because we would have liked him to have a happy ending. It’s unfortunate, but for the best that it was now and not afterward.” She should return the engagement ring, according to etiquette, but some Playmates wonder if she’ll return the Bentley, too.

The claims made by Crystal this morning to Ryan Seacrest contradict what Hef and she told me when I interviewed them here in Las Vegas last month during Claire Sinclair’s coronation as 2011 Playmate of the Year at the Palms.

Is Donald Trump thinking of now running an independent third-party nomination for president? Just asking because he’s scrapped plans to attend his 2011 Miss USA Pageant here at Planet Hollywood on Sunday because of a more pressing political and economic meeting in Britain. … Two stores in the Appian Way corridor at Caesars Palace will close this weekend when a construction wall goes up to start work on the new Nobu restaurant and lounge being built alongside the planned Nobu tower.

Lady Gaga’s father, “Daddy Gaga,” is set to stop by nightly during Marty Allen’s comedy run at Palace Station this week. … Rapper Lil Wayne told MTV News that he wants to become the first hip-hop star with his own Las Vegas resident show. … Congrats to Chef Michael Mina, who has several restaurants here in partnership with tennis champion and hometown hero Andre Agassi, on the opening of RN74 in a historic building in downtown Seattle that is becoming a Bill Gates favorite.

Master magician Lance Burton recorded the introduction for French magician Stephane Vanel’s new sleight-of-hand card tricks show that opened at the Paris last night after his seven-year run in MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris. A surprise hit of the show was the amazing puppetry by master marionette Anthony Rais. … Actor David Arquette is back on the Strip again and watched Absinthe at Caesars Palace and posed for a group photograph. … Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman dined at Dos Caminos in the Palazzo. … Comics legend Stan Lee dined at Chef Barry Dakake’s N9NE Steakhouse at the Palms last night.
