Well, that was unexpected.
Without the usual announcement run-up, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival unveiled its 2015 lineup without warning this morning, and at first glance it features a typical blend of surprises and disappointments.
Chief among the latter, the three headliners: AC/DC, a strange choice for the alternative-leaning fest, especially given that the band's longtime rhythm section likely won't be in attendance; Jack White, who plays Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas on February 4; and Drake. Yes, Drake is headlining Coachella.
Names likely to be met with more excitement by Vegas music fans hoping for waves of otherwise-uncatchable acts include reunited shoegazers Ride, electronicists Caribou, Squarepusher, Todd Terje, Jon Hopkins and Flying Lotus, experimental outfit Swans, veteran bands Belle and Sebastian and Drive Like Jehu, hot hip-hop duo Run the Jewels and the usual horde of of-the-moment indie names, like St. Vincent, Parquet Courts, The War on Drugs and Mac DeMarco.
Passes for the three-day SoCal desert fest—set to run April 10 to 12 and April 17 to 19—go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, January 7, at noon through coachella.com .
