Electric Daisy Carnival is one of the few festivals that can get away with releasing its artist roster a month before the actual event. That’s mostly because Insomniac’s tentpole weekender has sold out by that point—last week, the last general admission pass was snapped up, leaving only expensive VIP passes left—and the attendee fervor slants more toward the experience itself than any given performer(s).
That said, electronic music fans and festival fanatics will delight in parsing this year’s 250-plus act curation, which was coyly teased Friday night via Insomniac founder/head Pasquale Rotella's "Nightowl" program on Sirius XM’s Electric Area station. The full lineup is listed below, but some bookings of note include:
• Perhaps reflective of EDC’s 20th anniversary this year, a slew of veteran acts long associated with the festival surface on the lineup poster, including house champions DJ Dan and Bad Boy Bill, trance pioneers Paul Oakenfold and Paul van Dyk, hardcore long-hauler Ron D. Core and bass scene stalwarts Andy C and MC Armanni Reign.
• Good news: Hotly anticipated and recently reunited drum-n-bass act Pendulum made the lineup, as did EDC newbie and ambient house favorite Tycho. Not-so-good news: Both will eschew their famous live performances for DJ sets.
• For the sixth year in a row, Tiësto is booked to perform on the Kinetic Field main stage—which, according to Rotella’s "Nightowl" segment, won’t reveal its full technological prowess until an unannounced moment in order to surprise revelers. Other heavy-hitters for the 400-foot-long stage—purportedly the largest among American music festivals—include Axwell & Ingrosso, Hardwell and DJ Snake.
• Kaskade, Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix and Above and Beyond are just some of the EDM godzillas helming the booth at what Rotella promises to be a Circuit Grounds stage area that’s not only three times the size of last year’s otherwise gargantuan proportions, but apparently 360 degrees in configuration. Also: On Sunday, Circuit Grounds will exclusively feature trance DJs, sponsored by Insomniac’s Dreamstate division.
• Bass Pod will celebrate all things low-end with regulars Bro Safari, Datsik, Zomboy, Excision, Crizzly and others. Ditto the Wasteland stage for the harder subgenres, featuring Coone, Code Black, Kutski, Audiofreq, among others, and a revamped Neon Garden area for deep house/techno reliables such as Maya Jane Coles, Hot Since 82 and Adam Beyer.
• EDC will introduce a new, smaller stage called Upside Down House, featuring more ebullient, funkier house sounds, along with dance figureheads like Armand Van Helden and Derrick May.
• And less-genre-partial EDM DJs like Zedd, Martin Solveig, RL Grime and What So Not will reign supreme on an also-upgraded Cosmic Meadow stage, known for its massive grass field and bleacher-seating access.
Here’s the lineup in full. EDC takes place June 17-19 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
