In case you hadn’t noticed, The Killers have released a holiday single every year since 2006, with all of the proceeds going to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a collaborator with the (RED) campaign begun by U2’s Bono. Now that the effort has crossed the decade mark, the Vegas-born act has compiled those songs in a collection called Don’t Waste Your Wishes, available now digitally and on December 9 as a limited-edition CD. Like the singles that comprise it, the album’s sales proceeds go to the Global Fund.

And, yes, The Killers continue their yearly tradition with a new single (which also closes Don’t Waste Your Wishes): a unique take on “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” which frontman Brandon Flowers updates with his own account of moving from Henderson to Utah with his family in the early 1990s, and learning the story behind the WWII-themed holiday standard from his fourth-grade teacher, Ned Humphrey Hansen. The now-86-year-old Hansen then launches into an a capella version of the song—as he did with his students—with Flowers eventually joining him, in what may be one of the most poignant recordings The Killers have ever released.
