As We See It

Is it the end of the Hilton era?

Jimmy Choo shoes? That’s hot! The Las Vegas Hilton going into default? That’s not.

In 2003, Paris Hilton eclipsed her famous family name with a sex tape and a reality show. Then there was her ’04 autobiography, her ’05 breakout movie and her ’06 pop album. Way before Anthony Weiner, she pretty much invented the underwear scandal. And her catchphrase, “That’s hot,” remains in the public consciousness. But nowadays, Hilton has been eclipsed by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Snooki. Hilton’s latest TV venture, The World According to Paris, premiered for only 400,000 souls and won’t be renewed for a second season. Hilton did dance onstage during Deadmau5’s Cosmo show last week, but she was dressed as a ghost (oh, the symbolism). Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Hilton went into default in August and might pull its brand from the city. Judgment aside, it’s the end of an era.
