Siegfried & Roy unveil the Save Vanishing Species postage stamp at the Mirage

Proceeds from the stamp benefit the Wildlife Without Borders program.

Magicians Siegfried & Roy unveiled the Save Vanishing Species postage stamp this week at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage. It seemed an ironic place for the big reveal, given the continual controversy over keeping wild animals in captivity for entertainment purposes. Proceeds from the stamp, featuring an Amur tiger cub, go toward the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife Without Borders program, which supports conservation efforts for endangered species. Under the Multinational Species Conservation Funds Semipostal Stamp Act of 2010, the net proceeds go to the African Elephant Conservation Fund, Asian Elephant Conservation Fund, the Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Fund and the Marine Turtle Conservation Fund.

The tiger’s all well and good, but we need a stamp with Siegfried & Roy on it. Proceeds can benefit endangered illusionists of yesteryear.
