As We See It

Zippo is opening its first U.S. locations in Las Vegas

The model store at Zippo’s headquarters in Bradford, Pennsylvania, will be replicated when the company opens its first U.S. retail stores at both Luxor and MGM Grand in Las Vegas later this year.

You’ve been buying—and most likely collecting—them for years, but it’s always been at a liquor store, Walmart … anywhere but a Zippo store. Although Zippo lighters are enormously popular, there’s never been a store dedicated exclusively to the brand in the United States.

That’s about to change, and the change starts in Las Vegas. Zippo announced this week it will be opening its first U.S.-based retail stores at both the Luxor in early May and the MGM Grand in the summer.

Mark Paup, Zippo vice president of sales and marketing, says the move is based on the company’s success with its 14 concept store locations in China. And Las Vegas makes perfect sense for the brand. "Casinos represent an untouched, yet promising retail medium for Zippo, especially considering that Zippo windproof lighters in the luck and gambling category are perennial best sellers,” he said in a press release.

In addition to its line of windproof lighters, Zippo stores will also feature the company’s expanding line of products, including apparel, bags, fragrances and small leather goods. In addition, the stores will feature lighters exclusive to that location.
