You may not be aware of this but today is National Tequila Day. It seems as if every day is another food or drink-inspired holida,y but this one is worth taking time out to celebrate.
Although I enjoy sipping on a good añejo, I can appreciate that most common method of tequila consumption—the margarita. Perfect for our summertime heat, the margarita is an outstanding libation which, with a little effort, doesn’t have to be cloyingly sweet due to pre-made mixes.
The good folks at Milagro have rolled out what they call the "World’s Freshest Margarita." Unless you’re distilling the tequila yourself, it’s hard to argue with them. Here's the easy recipe:
• 2 parts Milagro blanco tequila
• three-quarters part agave nectar
• 1 part fresh lime juice
Simply combine the ingredients, shake well and strain over fresh ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime and, if you choose, go with a salted rim. Then, just sit back and enjoy. With margarita in hand, all you need is a sack of tacos adobada from Tacos El Gordo and you’ve got a Tequila Day celebration in the comfort of your own home. ¡Feliz dia de tequila nacional!
