There is one component that has been sadly lacking in the production of “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace:

A back-alley bar.

To remedy that “Absinthe” absence, tonight the show’s co-producer, Ross Mollison of Spiegelworld, is partnering with downtown Las Vegas kingpin Tony Hsieh in Bar Vendome. The temporary outdoor tavern is to be built behind Beauty Bar and in operation until 2 a.m. After that, as the news release states, the bar will be moved to “a secret, mysterious location to be protected by a roving army of invisible unicorns trained by Downtown Projects.”

Invisible unicorns are plentiful in Vegas. Not many people know this. You might be standing next to one now.

The effort is just one instance where Mollison is fortifying his company’s hold on Vegas. Another will be May 13, when the under-production Spiegelworld show “Empire” will stage a dress rehearsal downtown. The most likely spot, and the one Mollison would prefer, is the tented parking lot at World Market Center.

The show is set for a summer debut at Times Square in New York, with previews of the 15-week run beginning May 22. But the first glimpse of the show will be in Vegas. The Bar Vendome promotion and sneak peek at “Empire” are the first of what Mollison promises will be a series of endeavors in Las Vegas that will make the city the company’s de facto headquarters.

“We love Las Vegas,” Mollison said during the first-anniversary party for “Absinthe” on Sunday night at the show’s tented venue at Roman Plaza at Caesars. “We are planning big things here.”

To that, we say, “Cheers.” All night long, if necessary.
