2012 EDC: Wild Styles of Attendees

Neil Moffitt, CEO of Angel Management Group, and Scott Sibella, president and COO of MGM Grand, celebrate the opening of Hakkasan Las Vegas with a ceremonial ribbon cutting Thursday, April 18, 2013.

Maybe you’re the type who is among the 320,000 fans who attend the summertime Electric Daisy Carnival at Las Vegas Speedway and says, “We need more of this!”

If so, you might be in luck. A second EDC weekend is being discussed among board members of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and EDC founder Pasquale Rotella. It was Rotella, CEO of the EDC production company Insomniac Productions, who moved the festival to Las Vegas Motor Speedway from Los Angeles Coliseum in 2011.

“We’re trying to do two EDC shows in Las Vegas, and we’re talking to the promoters about a second show,” said MGM Grand President Scott Sibella, who sits on the LVCVA Board of Directors, during Thursday’s ceremonial ribbon-cutting at Hakkasan Las Vegas at MGM Grand. “We’ll do it in the summer and have them three to four weeks apart.”

During the first UNLVino Bar-B-Q at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Sibella clarified that the “we” in that statement was the LVCVA, and the shows would be planned for the summer of 2014. He added that the talks between resort officials and Rotella are continuing. Rotella, a new father with Holly Madison -- Madison gave birth to Rainbow Aurora on March 5 -- has not returned a text message for comment about the possible shows. The third EDC in Las Vegas is set for June 21-23, again at LVMS.

• Sibella said that “Beacher’s Madhouse” is returning to Vegas by Labor Day Weekend, taking over the former “Crazy Horse Paris” space. “[The club] is designed, everything’s been sent in for permits. Hopefully we break ground in the next 21-30 days and it takes three months to build.”

Beacher once staged the show at the old Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and is currently putting on two shows a night at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Sibella says the new “Madhouse” is an apt puzzle-piece for the upgrades at MGM Grand, led by the opening of Hakkasan over the weekend.

“They’re going to complement each other so well,” he said. “Beacher’s is the place you go to entertain yourself from 11-12, then, bam, you’re off to the club.”

Bam! That is the official sound of “Beacher’s Madhouse,” a show like no other. Do some research, and you’ll see why.

David Copperfield

• Upgrades also are in the offing for Hollywood Theater at MGM, which might take on the name David Copperfield Theater to reflect the open-ended headlining production of illusionist David Copperfield.

“I’ll tell you, we just signed an agreement with David Copperfield, so for another three years, David’s staying,” Sibella said. “He’s traveling in September, and while he’s gone, we’re renovating the entire theater. David’s going to kick off a new show at the end of the year next year, changing some of his magic acts, and we’re renovating the showroom. ... We’re talking about naming it the David Copperfield Theater. He’s been a great partner and is doing very, very well.”
