*Congratulations to Lake Las Vegas resident, former Caesars Palace headliner and Quebec’s famous chanteuse Celine Dion, who was among four Canadians promoted yesterday from Officers to Companions of the Order of Canada, the highest honor ranking in our neighbor north of the border. Celine was honored for her contributions to contemporary music. She plans to spend most of 2009 resting up after her current grueling 14-month global tour and add a new baby to the family. Then all whispers indicate a return to Caesars Palace, rotating with Bette Midler and Cher, who are contracted there through 2011.

Star surveillance: American Idol Season 7 winner David Cook, who also won a Variety Star Award alongside Lauren Conrad of The Hills at the recent Teen Choice Awards, was at the Playboy Club in the Palms. David, who is in town for tonight’s live Robbie Knievel Fox TV special, was in a group of 14 friends that later moved on to the GhostBar ultra lounge, also at the Palms, sipping on Ketel One vodka mixed drinks. … Criss Angel and gal pal Holly Madison brought 10 friends from his Believe show at the Luxor to Moon at the Palms -- and joined world-renowned DJ Tiesto. They arrived at 2:30 a.m. and left shortly before 4 a.m. after enjoying Perrier Jouet champagne and Patron tequila shots. At 3 a.m., Holly was presented with a cake to keep her birthday week going, and the dance floor fans got into such a cheering frenzy that Criss threw several $100 bills into the crowd as a holiday gift! … Tampa Bay Devil Rays third baseman Evan Longoria took Hugh Hefner’s VIP table at the Playboy Club with his eight friends for two hours atop the Palms and enjoyed several games of blackjack in between his dance floor duties with fans. … The late Benny Binion’s grandson, Jack Behnen, celebrated the 10th anniversary of his 21st birthday with a dinner and reception at Piero’s. Binion is credited with the birth of our downtown gaming scene. The party was attended by a slew of Vegas Valley VIPs, including former hoteliers Kitty Rodman, Claudine Williams and Lynn Ruffin, Joan Winchell and Jack’s mother, Becky Behnen. … Hip-hop artist LL Cool J gave a spontaneous performance on the DJ mic when he partied at Body English in the Hard Rock Hotel with Jason Giambi in a private VIP booth.
