This one goes out to the Jettas

A scrawny guy is on the mic ranting that he’s not as small as he used to be, that this song goes out to all the girls—the ones with the long blonde hair, he saw a few of them in here earlier—that he used to pick up on them but they wouldn’t have anything to do with him and that he’ll probably kick their boyfriend’s ass later.

Then David Ridgeway of the Sin City Originators sings “Jetta”: “Girls like you don’t ever even see me/Girls like you only care about the cash/Long long hair tied up in ponytail/You an SUV yuppie kind of trash/And girls like you were made for the Jetta/Pretty pretty long hair with brains made of lettuce…”

While Ridgeway is unloading his repressed wrath from a lifetime of rejections, a smallish, round faced fellow starts talking to me: “This is a nice change from hanging out at Blue Martini,” says J.P. Woyton, who likes long hikes at Red Rock, Brazilian girls and cooking. “There it’s all those snobby type of girls who are all dressed up. Here, people just be themselves.”

This sounds like a backhanded complimented, but whatever. Ridgeway is once again between songs, this time lamenting how he and everyone else in his band recently lost their jobs and are now unemployed.

So best of luck to him and Woyton in their future girl-and-job-catching endeavors. Even at the grungy Thunderbird Lounge where long blonde hair is in short supply and girls sport short, spiky, dyed-black hair, I fear they will strike out.
