Valley Cheese & Wine in Henderson, one of Southern Nevada’s favorite gourmet shops for nearly six years, is moving.

In early August the store will be sliding over to 1570 Horizon Ridge Parkway, Suite 140, about 1.5 miles northeast from its current location at 1770 West Horizon Ridge, Suite 110. Why the small change? Exposure.

When Bob Howald and Kristin Sande opened Valley Cheese & Wine in 2006, their shopping center also housed Settebello and Crazy Pita. There was some foodie synergy happening. “After the first couple of years, they had moved out, and there was nothing to draw people in,” Howald said. “If you’re just driving by you can miss us. We’re tucked back here. We still get someone in once a week who says ‘I never knew you were here, are you new?’ After six years, it amazes me.”

The new store will capitalize on Howald’s strong Henderson customer base, add 500 square feet of space and provide street-front visibility from a busier center. It will have an additional restroom, too, which makes a big difference. “We always thought at some point, we’d have tables set up for wine and cheese tastings, but you can’t (be licensed) to do that without designated male and female restrooms,” Howald said. “So we will be able to do that, maybe not right when we open but by the first of the year.” As if you needed another reason to spend extra time in the shop.

Howald is hoping to be open in the new location by August 1, and a grand re-opening/anniversary celebration is planned for the fall.
