Look to Henderson for your new tamale hot spot

Be sure to add a splash of habañero sauce to your pork tamales.

Nothing satisfies quite like a hot, hearty tamale, and if you feel the same way, there’s a tiny new takeout shop on Stephanie Street full of tasty bliss. Swing through Tamale Hut and grab a dozen ($16.99) perfectly-sized masa masterpieces packed with savory chicken, pork or pinto beans. Beef tamales cost a little extra ($2.25 per or $19.99 for a dozen), but my money’s on the slightly spicy, absolutely delicious pork tamales, especially once you’ve doused them with a bit of the hut’s house-made habañero sauce. Two-tamale lunch or dinner plates with rice and beans are available, as are daily specials. On my first trip there were green chile with cheese or chicken with spinach tamales ($2.50), plus sweets—strawberry or pineapple tamales ($1.50). My advice: Just get a bunch of everything.

Tamale Hut 90 S. Stephanie St. #140, 558-2280. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
