Bite Now: Heritage Steak’s ‘ice cream social’

It’s funny how something simple and fun can be so memorable, especially set against a landscape where everything is big and bold or refined and complex. Simple and fun stands out.

Heritage Steak’s new interactive dessert for two, dubbed the “ice cream social,” might be genius. After you may have gorged on seafood towers, Berkshire pork belly, Hudson Valley foie gras and a Tabasco-peppered American Wagyu skirt steak, it makes sense that these desserts tend toward the lighter side—a sweet corn fritter with blueberry-fennel jam, or cheesecake with wild strawberries. But the newest treat brings the whimsy and nostalgia to the party, and it’s irresistible. Built for two (for $20), it includes two mini ice cream bars (on sticks!) that your server will customize for you right at the table with milk and dark chocolate dipping sauces, cookie crumbles, peanuts, and of course, sprinkles. Lots of sprinkles. As a bonus, a crisp, fresh funnel cake is riding shotgun, perfect to soak up all the toppings left over on your dessert plate. It’s delicious, but most importantly, it makes you smile.
