Quick Bites: Jaleo’s Paella Festival, Doppelbock Day and more

Graffiti Bao chef and founder Marc Marrone is teaming up with another local eatery, SkinnyFats and its founder Reed Allen Slobusky, to expand his culinary empire beyond the Las Vegas Valley. Marrone will be the new chef partner at HallPass, a food hall at the Gateway in Salt Lake City, Utah, developed by Marrone and his Graffiti Hospitality partner Todd Lunger and the SkinnyFats crew. Graffiti Bao will open its first out-of-state location at HallPass, which will also feature the Vegas team’s new concepts Hibachican, a blend of Japanese and Mexican foods, and dessert shop Waffadopolis. Five other eateries and bars are planned at HallPass, including SkinnyFats and Beer Zombies Draft Room & Beer Garden.

The annual Paella Festival at Jaleo by José Andrés at the Cosmopolitan continues through October 4, featuring three paellas developed by local chefs in collaboration with Jaleo culinary director Ramon Martinez. The event wraps with a special dinner for two on October 4 with two seatings at 5 and 7 p.m, during which guests will be able to enjoy the famous Paella Valenciana. Pinches Tacos at the Gramercy is throwing an outdoor (and socially distanced) painting party with food and drinks on Wednesday, September 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include all-you-can-drink margaritas. More info is available by emailing [email protected].

Majordomo Meat & Fish at Venetian has extended its summer weekly specials through November, including the Sunday Smokehouse menu ($45) featuring three meats, three sides and one dessert, and Major Monday, featuring a selection of oak-grilled meats and a 30 percent discount on wine.

Maverick Helicopters is partnering with Lip Smacking Foodie Tours to offer the ultimate fine dining and helicopter experience with Savory Bites & Neon Lights, a culinary journey that includes visits to Rose. Rabbit. Lie., Blue Ribbon, Momofuku and Scarpetta at the Cosmopolitan and Mastro’s Ocean Club at the Shops at Crystals followed by limo transportation to Maverick’s nearby terminal on and a 15-minute flight with bird’s-eye views of the Las Vegas Strip. PT’s Wings & Sports at the STRAT has added some new Southern-style dishes to the menu, including cheddar jalapeño hushpuppies with maple butter, bacon-wrapped shrimp tossed in Buffalo sauce with dill ranch and fried chicken skins with honey grain mustard sauce. New entrees include a catfish po’boy and mesquite-grilles salmon with farro risotto. New pizzas are also available including the Spicy Supreme with pepperoni, sausage, jalapeño and caramelized onions.

Tickets are on sale now for Doppelbock Day, the first event in the new Stay Motley series from Motley Brews, producers of the Downtown Brew Festival and the Great Vegas Festival of Beer. With those large live events on hold, the Stay Motley series is set to bring great beer and entertainment to Las Vegas in a different way. Doppelbock will be a collaboration between Motley and Big Dog’s Brewing Co., an 8.8 percent ABV malt-forward lager, and the live event featuring the new beer is set for November 7 as a livestream from Big Dog’s Brewery Barn and Patio. When the Planet Hollywood Resort reopens on October 8, its food and beverage options will include Gordon Ramsay Burger, Starbucks, the Heart Bar, Extra Lounge, Café Hollywood, Earl of Sandwich and Strip House. The new Stripside Chick-fil-A location has been operating along with many restaurants in the Miracle Mile Shops.

Ohlala French Bistro on the corner of Lake Mead and Rampart is celebrating its fourth anniversary with a special menu available for three nights, October 14-16. The $60 menu includes dishes such as foie gras torchon, snails sauteed in garlic, fried prawns in curry sauce, filet mignon, pistachio crusted cod and leg of duck confit.

Circa Resort & Casino and Le Thai chef and founder Dan Coughlin announced the new pan-Asian eatery 8 East will open at Circa ahead of schedule on October 28. The 8 East menu will include new fusion dishes Coughlin has been testing at Le Thai and cooking at home for family and friends, including salt and Szechuan pepper chicken wings, cumin lamb lollipops, brisket fried rice and slow-roasted crispy pork belly bacon. Circa’s other restaurant offerings include Barry’s Downtown Prime, Saginaw’s Delicatessen, Project BBQ and Victory Burger & Wings Co.
