Seek (fun) and ye shall find!

Maybe it’s the economy. Or maybe it’s the dog days of summer, and we’re going batty. Whatever the reason, promoters are encouraging you to revert back to your childhood, to a simpler time when Operation was performed even without universal health care, when battleships were routinely sunk casualty-free and when chests were full of treasure, not silicone.

To that end, Tao is presenting their first ever Tweasure Hunt, a $5,000 Twitter-fed treasure hunt taking place entirely within the Tao nightclub, lounge and restaurant this Thursday, August 6. Clues will be blasted out via Twitter every 20 minutes from 11 p.m., to 12:40 a.m., so you will need a phone with a Twitter application. And you must work alone! Each clue will prompt you to snap a photo of an object, so you will also need a digital camera with a display feature. To enter, follow @iamtaonightclub on Twitter, e-mail [email protected] or register in person by 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

DEEP THOUGHTS

By Jack Colton
“After careful observation it has come to my attention that sitting at a bar by yourself is never a good thing. As a girl, you look like a hooker, and as a guy, people just assume you’re a loser.”

Meanwhile, on another social-networking site near you, Pure Management Group is launching a popularity contest. You remember those, right? Student council, high school yearbook, prom … The Vegas Hook Up gives Las Vegas locals and Las Vegas aficionados from afar three chances to win a full-on Vegas nightlife experience, VIP-style. Log onto facebook.com/PMGnightlife, and click on the Vegas Hook Up link. Fill out the entry form for yourself (and/or refer a friend) for a chance to win one of the three remaining random weekly drawings on August 7, 14 and 21 for VIP access for two to a PMG event of your choice, a meet ’n greet with the event’s host, a VIP table with complimentary drinks, dinner at Company Kitchen & Pub House and a cabana at Venus Pool Club.

The grand prize drawing on August 28 will award two winners (one at random and the one with the most referral votes) all the prizes above plus a trip for two to Las Vegas, including flights and hotel rooms. One PMG employee will also win for having the most referrals, so this is a great way to kiss up to your favorite cocktail server. After this first foray, the Vegas Hook Up will continue in the future, perhaps on other social networking platforms.

Wingwoman Tours continues with the second installment in its six-month treasure-hunt series the Hunt on August 15 at The Grape. “A game of strategy and plundering,” the event begins at 6 p.m. with teams and individuals attempting to acquire the most items from a master list. July’s Hunt awarded $4,750 cash in total to the top three winners, plus prizes from Blue Martini, Cirque Du Soleil, Supercar Life, Strings and more. For this event, note that you will need a car and a camera phone. Looking ahead, September’s Hunt is already in the final planning stages for September 19; the top three teams from the first five Hunts will go on to participate in the final winner-take-all $5,000 showdown. Tickets to participate in the Hunt are $15 solo, $20 for two players, $30 for a team of three and $40 for a team of four. Call 586-5342 to book your team.

And rounding out the summer this Labor Day weekend, local clothing designer Lana Fuchs will present her $50,000 Billionaire Mafia Bailout. To play, you must order one of just 5,000 free T-shirts Billionaire Mafia has printed specifically for the contest; the first clue is actually on the shirt! The rest of the clues will begin rolling in on September 4, and when the final clue is revealed on September 6, one lucky treasure hunter will locate a backpack containing $20,000 in cash, a $25,000 gold and diamond ring and $5,000 in additional prizes. For complete rules and to get your free first clue T-shirt, visit billionairemafia.com. Think about it: $50,000 buys a lot of Slinkys and Silly Putty!

The Hard Rock to be rocking even harder post-renovation

If Wasted Space morphed into a hotel, it’d closely resemble the new rooms at the Hard Rock’s Paradise Tower. That’s because it is designer Mark Zeff who was behind carrying the rock ’n’ roll decadence over to the hotel’s new addition. Opened on July 31, the tower is only the first in a series of changes affecting one of the hippest properties in town. While we’re totally stoked about the new rooms, including a new party-rific penthouse suite and duplex pool suites that offer direct access to Rehab (not to mention the out-of-this-world design elements from Mark Tracy of Chemical Spaces), it’s the booze-related locations for the public that most interest us.

When the next phase of renovations is completed (tentatively scheduled for December), the former Joint will serve as a gaming corridor connecting the current casino to the Hard Rock Hotel Tower—ah, easy access. A new pool will open as well, possibly with a stage for concerts. And what about our beloved Body English? With word of a newer, larger club being constructed at the base of the HRH Tower, we were a bit worried. But reps say when the new nightlife venue opens, Body English is likely to remain, though it might transition into a strictly afterhours spot down the road. Daytime, prime-time and late-night partying all under one roof? We’re down.
