Hey Portland, stop stealing our musicians! The local scene’s latest loss? Canopy Glass. The two-year-old post-rock outfit said farewell at an intimate house show in Northwest Vegas last Friday night, as drummer T.J. Thompson prepares to head northwest. Why? The sentiment many mid-20s local musicians seem to share: “Portland, Oregon, is the motherland for kids like us,” says Canopy Glass bassist Nathan Gwatney.

More on Canopy Glass

Canopy Glass might not be completely finished. Gwatney wants to join Thompson in Portland at some point, and the band hopes to continue playing together when it can. “We’re probably going to tour still,” Gwatney says. “But this is the last Vegas show for a good while.”

Gwatney also remains confident Canopy Glass will get its blend of complex melodies and thrashy garage instrumentals down on record. “We’re still going to make music, and we may send each other files via Pro Tools and put things together.”

As for those of us still in the desert ... anyone wanna try tying our remaining musicians down?
