What’s new, Pussycats? (Whoa-wo-whoa)

After nearly five years at Pure, the Vegas Pussycat Dolls have hung up their white feather boas, pulled off their black leather boots, extinguished their prop cigarettes and rolled up their harness swings. But the Dolls went out with a roar, not a purr. Like marathon runners at mile 26, Vegas’ Pussycats brought their A-game for their last Pure industry-night performance last Tuesday. The crowd included several dancers from Bette Midler’s The Showgirl Must Go On and the guy who plays the Big Bad Wolf in Peepshow.

The show began at 11:15 p.m. Before long, the corsets came off and the cameras came out. Legs flew up, and the cheers erupted. The night’s only melancholy moment came when lead singer Jaime Preston told the crowd, “We’re closing this week.” The line drew supportive boos. The Pussycat Dolls danced their last on Friday, February 26.

The show will be missed, and not only by the tourists and the old guy with the long beard and Technicolor ’70s shirt who visited the Pussycat Dolls Lounge twice a week. The show will also be missed by the Dolls themselves: Jaime, Hayley, Cindy, Alicia, Colby, Sheila and Amanda. “This was a great gig,” Pussycat Doll Amanda Nowak said. “I’ve been doing this show for three years, and I’m really going to miss it. All the girls are going to miss it.”

What’ll she miss most? “I’ll miss meeting all the celebrities who come to the show. I’ll miss the afterparties at Pure. I’ll miss the dressing-room girl talk. But I just know the girls and I will keep hanging out together. I love them all.”

In 2011, a new Pussycat Dolls show will open at Chateau Nightclub at the Paris Hotel. Until then, Pussycat fans will have to tide themselves over with their fond memories ... and their Doll Domination 2.0 CDs.
