New superstar DJ alert! Grammy-nominated remixer and producer Chris Cox is coming back to Vegas—and not just for another music video shoot like the one in July. On the first Friday of every month beginning October 1, get ready for “12 inches of Cox” at Secret. More info at secretlv.net.

Downtown just gets cooler and cooler. Vanguard Lounge, which soft-opened its garage door on East Fremont last Thursday, has already gathered a crowd with an awesome cocktail menu (try the Flight of the Pisqus) and entertainment. Though the grand opening is scheduled for October, Vanguard is already open Tuesday through Sunday with resident DJs Miss Joy on Thursdays, McKenzie on Fridays, Funky Bad Chad on Saturdays and Aurajin spinning Sundays. Look for a full report on Vanguard next week.

Hey DJs (or aspiring mixmasters), Devil’s Night is looking for you. Now in its 13th year, promoters for the long-running Vegas Halloween party are holding a contest for the opening spot on October 29. Looking for your big break? Go to devilsnight13.com and submit your mix, or vote for your favorite and check out more event details.

The weather is cooling off, and pools are getting ready to pull the plug on parties in the next month or so. Mark your calendars: the last Ditch Friday at the Palms is September 24. Kaskade’s Sunday residency at Encore Beach Club and Dip & Dance on Thursdays are both over, and the party pool closes in the next week or so, though Surrender nightclub will remain open. Wet Republic’s last hurrah is October 31, and the pool will only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning October 1. And if you need one more wild day in the water, Drink Bare Dry at the Mirage is October 18 as locals receive complimentary bar all day.

Vote-whoring time! The sixth-annual Vegas Prom proves high school is forever as local nightlifers vie for the prom court crowns and spike the punch. Tao Beach sets the scene for the annual socialite staple on the evening of October 5 with sounds by DJs Shift, Vegas Vibe and Andy Gil as Chet Buchanan emcees. Tickets start at $20. Visit vegasprom.com for more info.
