These days, David Schmoeller is a mild-mannered UNLV film professor and dedicated supporter of local filmmaking; he was one of the producers behind last year's beloved local feature film Thor at the Bus Stop, and his own short films often are seen in local festivals. But before all that, Schmoeller had a Hollywood career that included directing 1989's all-time B-movie cult classic Puppet Master, which has gone on to spawn nine sequels, including this year's Puppet Master: Axis of Evil.

Schmoeller will pay tribute to his horror-movie roots this month at UNLV with a film festival featuring his own Tourist Trap on October 8 and Puppet Master on October 15. Other films to be shown this month include the classics Scream and Evil Dead II, as well as a variety of short films. Schmoeller will host as his soft-spoken self, but you'll be able to glimpse the evil lurking within.
