A quickie on Reno band Buster Blue

They play banjos and buckets. Now that’s classy.

They’re from: The ol’ North. Currently in Reno, all six members originally hail from Gardnerville, Nevada.

They started: After singer Bryan Jones used the name for open mic nights. He brought some childhood friends on board, and Buster Blue went from playing pots and pans to being a full-fledged band. They still use a bucket. “Back then it was kind of a hobby for all of us,” Jones says after Saturday’s Bunkhouse performance . “I would say we didn’t really become a band until two years ago.”

They play: Americana, and any instruments they can get their hands on. These guys (and gal) are constantly switching, from guitars and horns to the Appalachian-folk staples: banjo, accordion, chains …

They’re building: A hefty resume. They recorded second album When the Silver’s Gone inside an opera house in Virginia City (you can buy a copy at busterblue.com) and have been on tour for the past year.

They love: Each other. “It’s a lot like a marriage,” Jones says. “All of us know each other well enough to finish each others' sentences. We’re probably the closest thing to a family without actually being related.”
