Staying true to its status as one of the world’s most famous house music venues, the brand new Nikki Beach at the whitewashed Tropicana spent part of opening/Memorial Day Weekend hosting Defected in the House, an ongoing party from U.K. label Defected Records.

Saturday night, resident DJ and Music Director Roman Rosati opened for Defected artists ATFC and Rae (who sang while DJing), both flown in from Europe to promote the new residency. The Defected name was plastered about the club, and LED chandeliers over the dancefloor frequently flashed the label’s trademark “D.”

After Rosati warmed up the crowd with some commercial, old-school house, ATFC rocked the brand new space for two hours. But I wasn’t sure that the crowd knew what to do with real house music in a large, Las Vegas club. Even with recognizable vocals from Top 40 divas peppered through the mix, they seemed slightly lost during this edition of the international party.

They’ll get another shot. Nikki Beach in the House, mixed by The Shapeshifters, is out June 20, with plans for the duo to play the next DITH installment in Vegas on June 25.
